Walsh is a favorite go-to for us, especially for its white wines. Sarah and Nate Walsh are deeply involved in supporting Virginia wine, and their winemaking facilities give newer and experimental producers a place to develop their own labels. That makes this an interesting place to return to and try something different. It is also the most family-friendly of our three starting recommendations, but just as enjoyable for an afternoon without children. The event calendar is worth following.

Small groups can usually visit without a reservation; book a tour or special tasting separately. Check the events calendar for wine classes, dinners and other gatherings, and ask which wines from the Winemaker’s Incubator are available.
