BEFORE YOU VISIT
Planning questions
A few practical answers before you plan a day or weekend in Northern Virginia wine country.
How many wineries should I plan for one day?
For an unhurried day, start with two winery stops and a meal. Keep them in one area and leave room for a longer tasting or a walk. Use the sample visits as starting points, then adjust the stops and visit lengths to suit your pace.
Browse sample visitsDo I need reservations?
Requirements vary by venue, group size and experience. Check the venue’s official website for your date and reserve any required tasting, table or timed experience directly. Adding a stop to a VWE plan does not make a reservation.
Explore the venue guidesCan I include lunch or dinner?
Yes. Add a restaurant or choose a meal option offered in the planner. Meal labels help you choose a stop; they do not confirm current service. Check menus, food availability, dietary needs and reservations with the venue before you travel.
Browse food and diningHow should I arrange transport?
Choose a driver who will not be tasting, or book transport before you go. Confirm both the outward journey and the ride back to your accommodation or starting point. Do not assume an on-demand pickup will be available at a rural winery.
Plan your transportHow reliable are the planner’s times and hours?
Road times estimate uncongested travel without live traffic; parking and opening waits are separate. Town starting points are approximate. Hours checks use published records and can be incomplete or out of date. Allow extra time and review flagged details with the venue before you go.
Build your visitHow do I save or share my plan?
Your working draft stays on this device when storage is available. Save and share creates a separate link to that version, with no automatic expiry. Later edits or clearing the device draft leave earlier links unchanged. Use Edit a copy to customize a shared version; hours and travel checks refresh from current records.
Can I download an itinerary?
Choose Download itinerary PDF in the planner for a copy with your stops, notes, optional maps and estimated schedule. A Draft label means there are details to review before travel. The PDF is a snapshot; reopen your saved link for current checks and use current directions for the journey.
Can Allison help me plan?
Share your dates, interests, group size and any places you have in mind through Ask Allison. Your request is saved privately for her to review, and she can reply by email if she can help. Sending a request does not confirm a booking, and no automatic confirmation email is sent to you.
